How To Care For Newly Installed Sod

Watering:

After 4 weeks, switch to deep, infrequent watering – about every 5-10 days during dry periods, wetting the soil 6 inches deep.

Fertilizing:

After 6 weeks, apply fertilizer based on a soil test to maintain desired color and growth.
Avoid over-fertilizing, especially during summer months.

Mowing:

Start mowing once the grass reaches 3-4 inches tall.
Set the mower to cut no shorter than 2 inches, removing no more than 1/3 of the blade height at a time.

Apply limestone as recommended by a soil test, typically every 3 years.

As the sod acclimates to its new environment, receives sufficient water, and develops a new root system, it will gradually regain its vibrant green color.
